The Skilled Labor Shortage #2
Updates All Around
Before this Reston home hit the market, it needed a bit of work. Major and minor updates were done all around.
Some homes just aren’t ready for market as-is. To elevate the look of this 5-bedroom rambler, work was done all around the home. A Long & Foster agent partnered with Curbio D.C. general contractors to whip the listing into shape.
The kitchen saw some love, the living spaces got a little TLC, the bathrooms were updated, and the exterior was given a lift. When the finished home sold, both the agent and the seller were more than pleased.
The exterior definitely needed a lift in both the front and the back. Some of the work completed included:
- Resurfacing the asphalt driveway
- Removing, leveling, and resetting the brick/flagstone steps
- Repairing the wood siding as needed
- Pressure washing the siding, masonry, and vinyl siding
- Painting the siding and exterior trim including the windows, doors, fascia, soffits, eaves, and corner boards
- Removing a tree
- Cleaning leaf debris from the gutters
- Replacing the post supporting the porch roof

All three bathrooms needed work of some kind. Porjects included various work such as:

- Replacing the vanities and mirrors
- Removing and replacing cabinets
- Updating vanity light fixtures
- Replacing the shower pans, walls, and surrounds
- Painting the walls
- Replacing bathroom accessory kits
- Updating the exhaust fan covers

In general, the living areas were cluttered and dated. To prepare for the market, work in these areas included:
- Painting the walls, ceilings, doors, and trim
- Installing new carpet
- Refinishing the stairs
- Buffing and polishing the hardwood floors
- Installing ceiling insulation where it was missing
